Denmark is one of the most developed padel markets in Northern Europe. The country went from a few hundred courts in 2020 to more than 1,600 today, and new research shows that the number of people playing every week keeps rising. Here is an overview of the Danish market in 2026 and what it means for investors and club owners.
Courts: from 203 to more than 1,600
According to the Danish Padel Federation (Dansk Padel Forbund), Denmark had just 203 padel courts in 2020. Two years later the number had grown to 1,026, and by the end of 2024 it had reached around 1,500.
The federation’s court overview now lists 1,613 courts in Denmark: 445 courts at 311 associations, 1,153 courts at 240 commercial centres and 15 courts at 21 boarding schools (efterskoler). In other words, most Danish courts are run as commercial centres.
Players: six times as many every week
The largest national survey of sport in Denmark, “Danmark i Bevægelse” by the University of Southern Denmark, found that six times as many people played padel at least once a week in 2025 as in 2020. That corresponds to around 80,000 more adults playing every week. The share of adults who play at least monthly rose from 0.8% to 4.2%.
The survey also showed that more women, young people and older people are playing. Even among people over 70, three times as many play padel as in 2020. A broader player base is good news for occupancy outside peak hours.
Is the market saturated?
This is the key question for investors. The Danish Padel Federation’s chairman has said that he estimated room for close to 2,000 courts in Denmark, and that large parts of the country are now well covered. But he also pointed out that there is still a shortage of courts around Greater Copenhagen, where demand is high.
In a member survey by the federation, 57 of the 99 associations and centres that responded disagreed or strongly disagreed that padel had reached its peak popularity in 2025. The federation’s director has described the market as having found its level after a period of fast but controlled growth.
What this means for investors
1. Location is everything
In a market with more than 1,600 courts, you need a clear reason why players will choose your club. Look at the number of courts within a short drive, and focus on areas with high demand and few courts – such as parts of Greater Copenhagen. Read our guide to choosing a location.
2. Quality and upgrades
Many Danish courts were built quickly between 2020 and 2022. As they age, turf and glass need attention, and players notice the difference between an old court and a new panoramic one. Upgrading courts can be a smart investment for existing centres. See our maintenance checklist.
3. Indoor is the standard
Danish weather makes indoor courts the norm. Many centres are built in warehouses and other existing buildings. Our guide to converting a warehouse into a padel centre covers ceiling height, floor and lighting.
4. Run the numbers carefully
Revenue depends heavily on the number of courts and occupancy, especially off-peak. Test your assumptions with our guides to operating costs and profitability.
